Java Back-end Software Engineer
Hybrid working – Perm – Glasgow
FPSG have exciting opportunities for high performing Back-End Java Engineer to join an expanding Finance House in their Glasgow hub. As a Java Engineer you will work with a range of high end solutions, focused on continuous innovation & development. As one of the early members of a new Tech team you will have freedom to challenge and bring creativity driving automation and slipstream processes. You will require a blend of core Java, Java17, SQL, Mongo, STP, TypeScript, Python, Messaging / Middleware tools and an Agile approach.
As a Java Developer your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborative agile development on a range of Greenfield & Brownfield projects.
- A focus on Java Back-end with a willingness to engage and contribute within a full stack team.
- Contributing to continuous improvement, driving straight through processing, STP
- Contributing to iterative development, liaising directly with business users, business analysts, product owners and other developers
- Listening to business challenges, with a focus to develop new tools to automate processes and improve workflow
- Be prepared to take ownership and responsibility with a can-do attitude
- Contribute to analytical, problem-solving tasks.
- Take a full-life cycle ownership approach to your own solutions, through successful well-written, tested and supported code
- Articulate solutions to stakeholders where necessary including a non-technical audience
- The ability to quickly identify and document root cause issues, and effectively find and communicate possible resolutions
To be a successful Full Stack Engineer you will need experience of:
- Core Java Development (up to and including Java 17)
- Developing solutions in both SQL / NoSQL environment
- Familiarity with Straight Through Processing (STP)
- Strong source-control and Continuous Integration experience
- Knowledge of TypeScript, Python, Kafka
- Exposure to messaging and JMS, FIX, QuickFix, QuickFix/J etc
- Appreciation and understanding of DevOps, Docker, Nomad etc and Unit Testing such as JUnit
- Highly desirable to have an understanding or commercial exposure to Trade capture, Trade processing, Trade booking systems
As one of the early members of the Trading Operations team, you will be given the opportunity to develop and support all levels of the technology stack, with a focus on middleware and server side. This includes the potential to expand your current skill set and cross training into different languages and utilities, all of which is encouraged and supported.
Offices are based in Glasgow City Centre and to ensure collaborative agile approaches 3 days a week in the office will be desired.
